• What do you expect are the students’ cognitive outcomes when the students use technology?
It is my belief that some uses of technology will drastically enhance the students understanding of a subject. Let’s say the student is required to develop a documentary style video over the great depression using primary documents. The amount of documents, images and video they are exposed to in research will go far beyond the book. Having the students create their own story demand greater understanding than regurgitating facts from the book.
One of the most valuable things about the exposure to the internet is the depth in which you are quickly exposed to a topic. The availability to follow links in the direction of interest and see things you want to see.
• What do you expect are the students’ affective outcomes when the students use technology?
Students appear to take more ownership when the ball is in their court. The freedom of choosing resources and activities promotes this ownership. Many times the students are able to find on facet of a topic that draws them in. I find this in history. As the teacher provides the basic overview the students have the freedom to take a closer look at the area of interest. Many times the students come across something new and exciting to share with the rest of us.
